The High School Science and Engineering Jamboree is a hands on engineering competition scheduled for April 20, 2010 at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO. Students compete in a series of mathematics, engineering and science related projects including the State Wide qualifiers for the Wind Energy Competition, Prosthetic Arm design and others. The overall objective of the High School Science and Engineering Jamboree is to:

  • Encourage teamwork.
  • Encourage parent and teacher involvement in student activities.
  • Develop interpersonal and group skills.
  • Encourage honesty and fair play in life situations through competition.
  • Develop responsibility and integrity.

Colorado MESA and the University reserves the right to:

  • Disqualify any team for breaking the general rules or individual competition rules.
  • Remove or disqualify any team or team members for inappropriate behavior during participation at the competition.
  • Individual competition judges for each event will make final decisions on any dispute arising as a result from the competition.
  • Limit the number of teams competing at the competition should the need arise due to time and space constraints.

All participants and MESA advisors are charged with maintaining and following the rules listed herein.

  1. All advisors and team members must abide by the competition rules and the rules for each individual event.
  2. Adult supervision must be provided for each team by an advisor/sponsor/coach that will be present and responsible for the team members. Advisors may supervise more than one team.
  3. Advisors must ensure that team and student conduct be of the highest standard; representative of both the team's school and MESA program.

Wind Energy Competition

A maximum of 30 teams will be able to compete in the Wind Energy Challenge. Each school is limited to enter one (1) team af a maximum four (4) students to participate in the Wind Energy Challenge. It is suggested that schools hold "scrimmages" between each performance aspect, oral presentation and academic display to see, based off of over all score who should represent your school at this year's Jamboree.

The winning team at the Jamboree will go on to represent Colorado at the MESA USA Competition, hosted here in Denver, CO on June 24th-27th, 2010!

The competition area will be as such:

  • All performance aspects will take place on a hardwood floor surface.
  • Oral and Academic Displays will be combined into one event held in a classroom setting.
  • Time management is of great importance. Judging times will be STRICT and tests not completed in alloted time will be disqualified.
  • For rules and guildlines visit the MESA USA Wind Energy Challenge site.

Impromptu and Prepared in Advance Design Challenges

Impromptu challenge participation will be in a drop-in fashion. Teams that would like to participate in these challenges can do so, but must complete the challenge before the lunch period. The BioBowl will have various sessions that teams can participate in.

Teams that participate in the Prepared in Advance Design Challenges will be scheduled a time slot and must complete their competition within their designated time slot. Colorado MESA suggests alternative teams to the Wind Energy team as time slots may overlap.
