The overall objective of the MESA Day is to:

  • Encourage teamwork.
  • Encourage parent and teacher involvement in student activities.
  • Develop interpersonal and group skills.
  • Encourage honesty and fair play in life situations through competition.
  • Develop responsibility and integrity.

CHEN and MESA hope that through the competitions:

  • Students will participate in activities designed to demonstrate and nurture math, engineering and technical skills.
  • Students will understand the relevancy between the math, science and communications skills they are being taught and their importance in the workplace.
  • Students will be challenged by the activities designed to stimulate their analytical and creative skills.
  • Students will have fun doing all of the above.

CHEN and MESA reserves the right to:

  • Disqualify any team for breaking the general rules or individual competition rules.
  • Remove or disqualify any team or team members for inappropriate behavior while participating at the competition event.
  • Individual competition representatives for each event will make final judgment on any decisions.

All participants and MESA advisors are charged with maintaining and following the rules listed herein.

  1. All advisors and team members must abide by the competition rules and the rules for each individual event.
  2. Adult supervision must be provided for each team by an advisor/sponsor/coach that will be present and responsible for the team members. Advisors may supervise more than one team.

Competition Information

  2. Adult supervision must be provided for each team by a sponsor/coach who will be present and responsible for the team members. Sponsors may supervise more than one team. Sponsors are requested to assure the students proper behavior during the opening ceremonies, competition events and awards ceremony and throughout the day.
  3. Only middle and elementary school MESA students will be allowed to compete.
  4. All competitions are team events with teams consisting of two to four (2-4) team members. All teams must be co-ed unless advance authorization is granted from the state MESA office.
  5. Schools may choose to field teams for any of the competition events below. Elective team competitions include:
