High School Engineering & Science Jamboree

The overall objective of the High School Jamboree is to:

  • Encourage teamwork.
  • Encourage parent and teacher involvement in student activities.
  • Develop interpersonal and group skills.
  • Encourage honesty and fair play in life situations through competition.
  • Develop responsibility and integrity.

Colorado MESA and Colorado School of Mines reserves the right to:

  • Disqualify any team for breaking the general rules or individual competition rules.
  • Remove or disqualify any team or team members for inappropriate behavior during participation at the competition.
  • Individual competition judges for each event will make final decisions on any dispute arising as a result from the competition.
  • Limit the number of teams competing at the competition should the need arise due to time and space constraints.

All participants and MESA advisors are charged with maintaining and following the rules listed herein.

  1. All advisors and team members must abide by the competition rules and the rules for each individual event.
  2. Adult supervision must be provided for each team by an advisor/sponsor/coach that will be present and responsible for the team members. Advisors may supervise more than one team.

Competition Information

  1. Students may choose to enter one competition in Session # 1, one competition in Session # 2, and the Helicopter Packaged Eggdrop competition scheduled during the lunch break.
  2. Except for the Oral Presentation, the Engineering Jamboree is a team event. See below for the required number of team members for each event.

Session # 1

  • Bio Bowl - 3 Members Per Team
  • Multi-Task Trebuchet Challenge - 4 Members Per Team
  • Lou Vee Car - 2 Members Per Team
  • Spaghetti Tower Earthquake Test - 2 Members Per Team
  • Model Crane Contest - 2 Members Per Team

Session # 2

  • Math Quest - 3 Members Per Team
  • Oral Presentation - Individual
    • 2007 Presentation Topics
      1. Identify and discuss design flaws that led to the New Orleans levee breach; provide possible solutions for rebuilding the levee.
      2. Identify a genetically modified food and discuss the benefits and/org draw backs of the modification.
      3. Discuss the costs and/or benefits of using wind turbines to generate power.

  • Web Design - 3 Members Per Team
  • Solar Heater - 4 Members Per Team
  • Gumdrop Dome - 2 Member Per Team
